NDIS Counselling at MindRiver Center
Person-centred counselling supporting emotional wellbeing, capacity, confidence and everyday life.
MindRiver Center provides individualised counselling for NDIS participants where counselling is appropriate to the person's disability-related needs, individual goals and available funding.
Our approach is person-centred, trauma-informed, strengths-based and neurodiversity-informed. We recognise that every person has different strengths, experiences and support needs, and counselling is tailored accordingly.

How Counselling Can Support You
Counselling may support participants with:
-
Emotional regulation and understanding emotions
-
Anxiety and emotional distress
-
Confidence, self-esteem and identity
-
Self-advocacy and communicating individual needs
-
Relationships and healthy boundaries
-
Coping with change and life transitions
-
Developing practical coping strategies
-
Building resilience, confidence and greater independence
The focus of counselling is developed collaboratively with each participant and connected to the areas of everyday life that are important to them.

Neurodiversity-Informed Support
MindRiver Center provides counselling that recognises and respects different ways of thinking, communicating, processing emotions and experiencing the world.
Support can be adapted to the individual's communication style, strengths, sensory and emotional needs, and personal goals. Rather than focusing only on difficulties, we work with participants to better understand themselves, recognise their strengths and develop strategies that are meaningful and practical for their everyday lives.

Working Together
* Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology professionals are independent providers and are not employed by MindRiver Center.
With the participant's consent, MindRiver Center can collaborate with Support Coordinators, Psychosocial Recovery Coaches, families, educators and other professionals involved in their support.
Where a participant may benefit from services outside our counselling scope, we can also assist with referrals to independent Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology professionals, subject to their availability and suitability.

NDIS Funding
MindRiver Center welcomes self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants where counselling is appropriate to the participant's disability-related support needs, individual goals and available funding.
For plan-managed participants, invoices can be provided to the nominated Plan Manager. For self-managed participants, invoicing arrangements can be discussed during intake.
If you are unsure whether counselling can be funded through your plan, we recommend checking your plan or discussing this with your Plan Manager, Support Coordinator or NDIS contact before commencing services.

For Support Coordinators & Recovery Coaches
We welcome enquiries and referrals from Support Coordinators and Psychosocial Recovery Coaches seeking counselling support for participants.
With the participant's consent, we can collaborate with their broader support network to help keep counselling connected to their individual goals, needs and everyday circumstances.
Please contact us to discuss current availability, participant suitability or the referral process.
